Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
Because cement requires an energy-intensive manufacturing process, we have established company-wide initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint and incorporate reusable, recyclable material. We take these objectives seriously. Our customers, investors, and employees want to work for and with a company that does its part for the environment, and it’s simply the only way to do business. Our carbon-reduction programs include:
- Adding more fly ash to the blended mix, which decreases the amount of cement in the concrete
- Continuing to brand and blend our mixes, which lowers production rates and uses less carbon dioxide
- Using alternative fuels in our cement plants to decrease cement production costs, preserve fossil fuels, reduce waste and decrease the global greenhouse effect
- Increasing the number of National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) Green-Star certified plants
